WWE Raw: Prediction For John Cena vs. Braun Strowman

Tonight on WWE Raw, John Cena will take on Braun Strowman on the same episode that Brock Lesnar is scheduled to make an appearance. Who will prevail in this titanic matchup?

Braun Strowman always delivers when he appears on WWE Raw, and you could argue that no superstar in the entire company is booked more appropriately. Although Strowman hasn’t captured the Universal Championship yet, his meteoric ascension has afforded him the opportunity to face Brock Lesnar at No Mercy for the title. Before then, Strowman must square off against John Cena tonight on Raw.

Last week, Cena faced Jason Jordan in an excellent match to start the show, and while Jordan gave him some trouble, countering the STF in one memorable moment, Cena prevailed. Tonight’s battle between Cena and Strowman could be anybody’s ballgame, but it would be a surprise for Strowman to lose.

First of all, it would be a bad look for Strowman to lose, barring interference on Lesnar’s part. Strowman needs all the momentum he can get, because he is consistently booked as a monster. He also has a match with Lesnar scheduled for No Mercy, and it is critical for the WWE to hype up all of Lesnar’s opponents as strongly as possible.

It would make sense for Cena to lose tonight, because Roman Reigns, Cena’s current rival, has a match with Jason Jordan. Reigns should make quick work of Jordan, defeating the former American Alpha member in quicker fashion than the 16-time world champion did. He can then taunt Cena even further, telling Raw‘s newest member that he couldn’t defeat Jordan fast enough. On top of that, he can rub in Cena’s loss to Strowman, since Reigns has beaten him before.

Whatever the WWE decides, Strowman cannot afford to lose this match, but it is probably in their best interest to avoid having Cena lose. Unless, of course, Cena defeats Reigns at No Mercy, which seems like the most likely outcome if Cena is indeed leaving for “Hollywood” after the pay per view.

It will be interesting to see if either Reigns or Lesnar interferes in this match, because Cena and Strowman are currently embroiled in two distinct feuds at the top of the card on WWE’s flagship show. Regardless, this match should be worthy of the main event spot, and I wonder if it has a chance of being even better than last week’s thunderous match between Strowman and Big Show.

Surely, they can’t top the spot in which Strowman destroyed the steel cage by powerslamming Show through it, but a little creativity could make this matchup deliver in its own right. Either way, it’s exciting to see that this match is on the card, and hopefully it manages to further both of these money-making rivalries for No Mercy.

Prediction: Strowman wins, but not clean
