WWE NXT Live Results: Highlights, Analysis, And Grades For September 13
Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT should help us take a step towards finding a new Women’s Champion after Asuka relinquished the title last week due to a broken collarbone.
Last week’s episode of WWE NXT was packed with action after early squash matches to begin the show. William Regal took some time to call out the new “Ring of Honor” alliance formed by Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly. The trio of new signings, led by Cole, made their presences felt at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, attacking Drew McIntyre after he won the NXT Title from Bobby Roode. Now calling themselves members of “The Undisputed Era”, it will be interesting to see if NXT gets an introduction to the havoc-causing bunch.
Hideo Itami’s highly-anticipated match against Kassius Ohno took place, but it was Ohno who took full advantage of the “No Disqualification” stipulation to score the victory. Liberally making use of his thunderous “Rolling Elbow”, Ohno used a low-blow to help him get to the finish, pinning Itami for a victory over a man whose new attitude consistently frustrated Ohno. We’ll see where these two big stars go from here.
The big story for tonight lies in the women’s division, as it usually does. Asuka closed out last week’s episode of NXT with a heartfelt farewell, hugging it out with Ember Moon, receiving flowers from Triple H, and getting a rousing ovation from both the crowd and the locker room. It was a fitting goodbye to one of the most dominant champions in WWE history, as the undefeated Asuka’s endless ways as a powerhouse should continue on the main roster. Asuka helped build NXT into the brand that it is today, and that was such a powerful moment, especially for regular viewers of the NXT product.
However, Asuka’s departure leaves a vacancy for the NXT Women’s Championship, and it’s something that Regal will have to sort out. There are so many deserving candidates, and we’ll see which of Ruby Riot, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Nikki Cross, or Ember Moon is able to capture that title. Moon is easily the most “ready” of the group and tore the house down with Asuka, proving that she’s the best opponent Asuka has faced during her reign. But, of course, Kairi Sane is lying in wait for a title opportunity after her incredible performances at the Mae Young Classic. She defeated Tessa Blanchard, Bianca Belair, Dakota Kai, and Toni Storm; four of the best women’s wrestlers in the world.
Riot is involved in another intriguing storyline, because she asked Regal for a match against both Royce and Kay, who have been a constant thorn in her side. Regal, worried that the always bad-ass Riot might bite off more than she can chew, stated that he will only make that a tag match. It looks like Riot needs to find a partner, and I wonder who that could be.
