At WWE No Mercy 2017, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Emma, and Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss will compete in a Fatal Four-Way match. Emma has long been seen as the odd-one out, but could she actually have a chance in this match?
Emma has become one of the most popular superstars on the Raw roster on the Internet as a result of her poor booking, which led to the #GiveEmmaAChance hashtag. That hashtag helped her get some screen time, because after threatening Kurt Angle with a potential plot to get with his son Jason Jordan, she started to get some matches. And, surprisingly, she scored a win over Mickie James before teaming up with Nia Jax to turn the Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss match for the Raw Women’s Championship at WWE No Mercy 2017 into a Fatal Four-Way.
The initial rumors circulating stating that Emma was only inserted into that match to take the pinfall. It makes sense, because Emma is clearly the lowest woman on the card of the four. The other three wrestlers in that match are main eventers on Raw, but Emma regularly jobs out. I mean, she lost to Banks on the latest episode of Raw for no reason other than to give Banks some momentum.
However, a new rumor has appeared, stating that Emma may not be the one to take the pinfall in the Fatal Four-Way. The reasoning is that the WWE would like to build Emma up at least a little bit, because Asuka is coming to Raw. Set to be a face on the main roster, Asuka’s first feud is supposedly going to be against Emma, who needs all the cred she can get in the build-up to that match. Now, there’s no doubt Asuka will squash her, but I guess the idea is that they don’t want to make Emma look like a total chump before then.
If Emma doesn’t take the pin, then that leaves Sasha as the likely candidate to take the proverbial “L” here. The WWE has clear plans for an Alexa vs. Nia feud, so much so that the two of them are in line for a match on next week’s Raw.
My expectation is for Bliss to retain, since they’ve muddied the waters with three others and have continually pushed Bliss as the “Goddess” of the division, and it would be difficult to envision Bliss pinning Jax. After all, the WWE doesn’t like to make Jax look weak in these types of matches. Banks can afford to take a pin due to her popularity, so that might be how they change the finish of the match.

The WWE doesn’t seem to think highly of Emma, or, at least, they don’t seem to value her appropriately. We all know that Emma is one of the best wrestlers around, as she’s proven she can put on an excellent match with anybody. The fact that there’s at least a rumor throwing around the idea of the WWE protecting her is a positive sign, let alone the fact that she’s in this championship match in the first place. Baby steps, I guess.
