WWE Rumors: Did Neville Ask For His Release?

The “Neville Level” has been the term used to describe the scintillating performances that Neville has put on each and every week in the WWE this year, but could the “King of the Cruiserweights” be interested in exiting the company?

At WWE No Mercy, Neville lost the Cruiserweight Championship to Enzo Amore via a low blow, and the result was a fuming fanbase. Neville’s reign as Cruiserweight Champion, which was only briefly interrupted by a fluke win from Akira Tozawa before SummerSlam, made him one of the biggest stars in the company. His character work as an angry, crazed heel is tremendous, and his work in the ring remained among the best in the entire world, even though he toned down his style in order to play the villainous role more effectively.

Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin spoke with sources in an effort to evaluate a recent rumor that Neville may have requested his release from the WWE. The story from Satin is that Neville was originally scheduled to lose the “Lumberjack Match” that took place in the main event of Raw last night, losing the match to Enzo Amore.

That would have been a confusing outcome for two reasons. First of all, a wrestler of Neville’s caliber should not be losing to Enzo, and, secondly, there was a clause stating that Neville could not attack Enzo. Neville’s willingness to eschew the clause to attack Enzo, forfeiting any chance at the title, was a big part of the double-turn that allowed Neville to become a babyface.

Per Satin, Neville walked out before the show due to this request, and the WWE decided to book Kalisto to win the Cruiserweight Title over Enzo in the match. Kalisto’s win was a feel-good moment for an excellent wrestler who should have joined the Cruiserweight Division much sooner, and it also allowed the WWE to give a nod to Eddie Guerrero.

As of right now, Pro Wrestling Sheet is still trying to confirm the story, but this is a huge deal. Austin Aries already left the WWE after being mistreated in the Cruiserweight Division, and he is another one of the most respected wrestlers in the world. Even if Neville doesn’t leave, which seems unlikely at this juncture, he has every right to be upset, and this story just speaks to the fact that the WWE is disrespecting some of its hardest workers in the Cruiserweight Division.
