WWE Rumors: Randy Orton vs. Rusev In ‘Last Man Standing’ Match?

Rusev successfully avenged his ten-second loss to Randy Orton at WWE SummerSlam, but “The Viper” got the upper hand again by winning at Hell in a Cell. Where is this feud building towards?

The match between Rusev and Randy Orton at WWE Hell in a Cell had to follow the legitimate five-star bout between The New Day and The Usos inside of the cell. As expected, Orton vs. Rusev was nothing special, but it was a nice old-school wrestling match before a creative counter at the end that led to an RKO win for Orton.

Many people thought that Rusev could score the upset on Orton, finally notching a signature victory for himself. Before moving to SmackDown Live in the Superstar Shakeup, Rusev was directionless on Raw. He then suffered an injury, didn’t get the title shot at Money in the Bank that he asked for, and has been jobbing out ever since.

However, the potential long-term storyline of Rusev “killing The Legend Killer” could still come to fruition at a later date. On an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated that the feud between Rusev and Orton may not be finished. He added that they are building to a “Last Man Standing” match [H/T All Wrestling News].

A “Last Man Standing” match between Orton and Rusev could be one of the best gimmick matches of the year. Orton is at his best in these types of brutal matches, and the same can be said for Rusev in the ring. The fact that the feud is expected to continue means that there is a possibility that Rusev could come out looking strong by the end of it. I wouldn’t get my hopes up, but Orton has been allowed to push other talent this year.

The extension of this feud can still work promo-wise without getting stale, because Rusev has shown that he can make literally anything work. He’s been brilliant in this feud, with #RusevDay being one of the highlights of the year. As for Orton, he remains over with the live crowd, and, when in doubt, the RKO is always good for a pop.
