WWE TLC 2017: Should Asuka Really Be Facing Emma?

WWE TLC 2017 is shaping up to be an interesting event.  One of the more intriguing matches will feature Asuka making her main roster debut.  The Empress of Tomorrow will look to continue her reign of dominance on the RAW roster.

WWE TLC 2017 is right around the corner and it will mark the main roster debut of Asuka.  The Japanese superstar that dominated NXT for years will finally get her chance in the big leagues.  Last night’s Monday Night Raw decided who her first opponent would be.  In a 5-way elimination match, Emma would steal the victory and book her ticket to TLC.  Now that we know who will be sacrificed to the Empress of Tomorrow, was Emma the right choice?

Asuka decimated everyone that was placed in front of her during her time in NXT.  She held the NXT Women’s Championship for a total of 523 days.  She only had one reign as champion.  That speaks to the level of performer she is and her ability in the ring.  Her wake of destruction is now heavily populating the Raw roster.  So they will all be familiar foes and we have easy access to her victories over them.

Now there are a few of the women that Asuka has a clean slate.  Asuka has yet to have meaningful programs with Sasha Bank and Alexa Bliss.  They were some of the few that avoided Asuka’s reign of terror in NXT.  Not to take anything away from Emma, she is a fantastic wrestler and will have a good match with Asuka, but a quick search of Asuka’s victories and Emma is at the top of that list.

Looking at the rest of the Raw roster to try and find other matchups that may be intriguing and fans can run into the same issue.  Asuka defeated Bayley twice in big stage matches.  She ran through Dana Brooke to open her win streak.  And Asuka has even taken down Nia Jax in what was a battle of the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object.  She also defeated the current number one contender Mickie James in a heated back and forth.  That doesn’t leave much that fans haven’t seen yet.  Once again making that clash with Bliss to be that much more enticing.

The Queen of Mean and the Empress are on a crash course

When you take a step back and look at the dominance and how Asuka never lost her Women’s Championship, to me, Alexa Bliss was the choice that needed to be made.  Now a program down the road may absolutely be on the docket but it would’ve made perfect sense right now as well.  After all, Paige won the Diva’s Championship her first night on Raw.  Asuka walking into a title match isn’t out of left field.

Alexa Bliss will be defending her Women’s Championship against Mickie James at TLC in what has become a fun story.  But the thought of Alexa, who since her promotion has been running roughshod over both Women’s divisions, and the most dominant champion in NXT going toe to toe is exciting.

It’s hard to imagine Emma getting past Asuka at TLC.  And Alexa losing the title at this time seems far-fetched.  The Empress of Tomorrow and Little Miss Bliss will be a marquee matchup of two dominant champions.  In due time Asuka and Bliss will be on a collision course, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
