WWE SmackDown: Is Sami Zayn’s Turn Best For Business?

The Underdog From The Underground has been a fan favourite since his debut in WWE. Is this fresh heel turn really what’s best for business and his career?

WWE prides itself on the saying ‘expect the unexpected’, and it does seem almost rare these days when we as fans can genuinely be surprised by something. At WWE Hell In A Cell, the unexpected did happen, and it was genuinely a surprise! Fan favourite Sami Zayn inserted himself into the main event match of Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon. Many did expect that perhaps he would play a part, but not in the way that it did happen.

Instead of helping out SmackDown General Manager Shane McMahon, Sami Zayn surprised the WWE Universe by helping out his former best friend Kevin Owens. Saving Owens from a McMahon cage dive and placing Owens on McMahon for the 1, 2, 3 and getting him the victory, Zayn completely changed the dynamic and his own character. The wait to see what was next was a long one, however SmackDown did not disappoint as both Owens and Zayn delivered top notch promo’s.

Is this turn for Sami Zayn best for business? Without a doubt it is, with many fans expressing frustration with his booking and his title shots being almost non-existent. A huge change like this is exactly what he needs, and the timing couldn’t be better. We have seen Owens/Zayn feud with each other since Owens started in NXT, and their feuds and matches have been memorable. In real life we have always known these two are the best of friends, and to see them actually together in this way on television is something most thought would never happen.

The possibilities here are tremendous, there is so much they can do on the landscape of SmackDown and it will be fresh and new to audiences. Starting this off with a shock turn and a great promo was the right move, this is not something that can be rushed. They both have the chance to be built up to basically run SmackDown, gain opportunities and have feuds with just about anyone on the roster. This does run the risk of being too similar to the Owens/Jericho duo, currently though there are no signs of that and it does need to stick that way.

It is an exciting time, we are heading into Survivor Series territory, which will be the last big PPV of the year. There is time to build this up and to make it special, to keep the fans talking and making sure they are invested. What happens next is anyone’s guess, next week’s SmackDown should be worth the watch. Sami Zayn your career is about to change, for the better!
