Golden Tate Hits The People’s Elbow After TD (Video)

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate decided to give a little nod to “The Rock” in a Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints by celebrating with “The People’s Elbow” after a receiving touchdown.

From Razor Ramon’s “Bad Guy Dance” to John Cena’s “U Can’t C Me” taunt, we’ve seen NFL stars celebrate touchdowns by using pro wrestling maneuvers plenty of times. In a Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate decided to give a nod to “The Rock” by hitting “The People’s Elbow” after scoring a receiving touchdown.

Tate is the NFL’s most electrifying wide receiver after the catch, living up to the Steve Smith Sr. comparisons he’s received ever since he was a standout at Notre Dame. So it’s fitting that he would use the finishing move of “The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment” to celebrate a touchdown reception that featured several dazzling broken tackles.

On this touchdown reception, Tate somehow stayed in bounds after getting enough yardage at the catch point to get a first down. Tate is always looking to make something happen with the ball in his hands, and he showed off his trademark speed, explosiveness, and strength to squirm free and flip into the end zone. That flip is a staple in Madden games, but it isn’t everyday you see the “People’s Elbow” celebration he whipped out afterwards.

The NFL doesn’t like it when its players celebrate, so it’s always awesome when football stars are able to come up with a celebration that fits within the confines of the league’s increasingly restrictive rulebook. Hopefully more people follow suit like Tate, Melvin Gordon, Pat McAfee, and Steve Breaston with their own nods to the world of professional wrestling whenever they make a big play happen in the NFL.

Tate’s touchdown reception tied the game up at 7-7, but the Saints would pull away and had a 31-10 lead deep into the second quarter. The Lions offense struggled, but Tate’s 45-yard touchdown catch made him a standout. The man with three straight 90-reception campaigns in on a quest for 90 more this season, and he continues to be one of the most underrated players in the NFL today.
