WWE Raw: Love Him or Hate Him Enzo Has Helped The Cruiserweights

You either love Enzo Amore on WWE Raw or you don’t, and since his separation from Big Cass, he has made an impact with the Cruiserweight division – and it’s working.

It has been unfortunate that the Cruiserweight Division has not been handled as well as it should be There can be a lot of blame to place, however, the concept and division is not one that is easy to book in the current landscape. Creative have tried, and they have become a staple of WWE Raw and been extended to their own Network show with 205 Live airing after SmackDown.

The rise of King Neville certainly helped the division gain attention, but due to his own unhappiness within the company it looks like he will be leaving. Highly unfortunate as Neville is one of the best the roster has in terms of pure talent, however it seems Enzo the wild card has paid off and in a very short amount of time.

Late last year I personally speculated with a couple of friends that Enzo and Big Cass should split, and perhaps Enzo should join the ranks of the Cruiserweights. It seems we weren’t the only ones with that thought, as after the split Enzo has in fact joined their ranks and has not only made a massive impact, he is now a two-time Cruiserweight Champion.

The growth of Enzo as a character has been interesting, he was a big fan favourite for so long with crowds enjoying his shtick and repeating his catchphrases. The development of Enzo as a heel as worked spectacularly, and he has even managed to close Raw several times and gained much vested interest in the Cruiserweights.

With the entire locker room seemingly against him, Enzo’s heel turn was complete and he managed to help with 205 Live’s ratings on the Network and get people talking about what was happening. Enzo is not the best in ring competitor but he does have charisma in spades and he knows how to work a crowd.

This big change for the division has come at a perfect time, it needed a shake up and it has definitely been provided for them. Enzo is the perfect heel that you love to hate, he’s smug, a loud mouth and he has a huge ego. The tide continues to change with Enzo having a partner in crime with Ariya Davari and some of the other heels. It gives purpose and meaning for the faces to have foes to go up against. The division is moving in the right direction.

The cruiserweights may be on their way up, however Enzo alone can’t do that even though centering the division around him is working. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to introduce another title in the division to give some of these feuds more to work towards. Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles would be the next logical step, with several teams already in place it could be just what they need. Certainly the division is being must watch and 205 Live is becoming a very good hour of TV to tune into.
