WWE Release Darren Young And Summer Rae

The WWE is in another stage of house-cleaning, as they have announced the releases of Darren Young and Summer Rae after already “future endeavoring” Emma earlier today.

Today’s announcement of Emma’s release made the most waves among wrestling fans, because she had just recently completed a feud with Asuka, giving the “Empress of Tomorrow” her debut match at TLC. Emma’s contributions to women’s wrestling, including some scintillating matches with the likes of Paige and Asuka in NXT, and excellent character work will be missed.

In addition to Emma, the WWE has officially announced that they have released Darren Young and Summer Rae, who were both well-liked by fans. Neither Summer nor Young have been on WWE television in quite some time, as they have both been dealing with injuries. Young did appear at the Los Angeles Clippers game in the WWE-NBA cross-promotional “Clippermania” event, joining Becky Lynch, Enzo Amore, and The Miz there.

Young had been at live events and was working as a heel before being released. He previously was in a tag team with Titus O’Neil called the “Primetime Players”, and the two showed impeccable comedic timing and became tag team champs. Before his injury, Young was paired up with Bob Backlund in the “Make Darren Young Great Again” storyline, which sounds about as dreadful on paper as it was in actual execution.

Meanwhile, Summer Rae was a wrestler and manager who had some excellent moments with Fandango, as the two would incessantly creep out Renee Young or make bizarre statements. Summer was quite underrated, and it will be interesting to see what she and Young decide to do going forward.

Because neither wrestler had been on TV for quite some time, these two releases are even less surprising than Emma’s. These two official removals from the main roster will clear out space for rising superstars from NXT in the future, but both Young and Summer will be missed by the fans. The two gave the WWE Universe some memorable moments, and that’s all we can ask for.
