Last night saw a monumental, brand-changing, and Survivor Series-changing WWE SmackDown as we rapidly approach the Survivor Series pay-per-view.
The main champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series has taken a dramatic change for the better and despite last night’s WWE SmackDown being a bit stale at times, the main event made up for any earlier misfortunes surrounding the show.
Despite an outstanding finish to the show, a questionable decision was made regarding Team SmackDown at Survivor Series and two of the brand’s top stars have still not made the Survivor Series card. Let’s take a look at five takeaways from the Nov. 7 edition of SmackDown.
5. Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin Need a Rematch in the Near Future
The recently-formed tag team of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin has taken off over the past few weeks. The potential for the team is there and earning a tag team title shot against the class of the tag team division, The Usos, was thought to be a chance to truly break through.
The match was made on the Oct. 31 edition of SmackDown and it was believable that Gable and Benjamin could have won the championship, especially given how Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose lost their Raw Tag Team Championship on the Nov. 6 edition of Raw. But the match would not go like most fans had hoped.
It turned out to be a really short match that saw The Usos get counted out due to Jey Uso’s apparent lower leg injury and retain their championship. The injury did look to be potentially real and the announcers did a great job of selling it even if it wasn’t real. There’s still no telling if the result of this match will affect Survivor Series or not.
But at the end of the day, Gable and Benjamin deserve another shot at the tag team gold. It can come anytime in the near future, but it needs to happen. These two teams have the capability to put on an outstanding match and if given an appropriate amount of time, they could tear the house down.
SmackDown’s tag team division needs Gable and Benjamin’s fullest potential and another match for the tag team titles would go a long way in accomplishing that.
