NJPW Rumors: Update On Kenny Omega Re-Signing In 2018

NJPW’s Kenny Omega is the biggest star in professional wrestling outside of WWE, as all of his matches are top-tier and his character work is engaging, to say the least. Fans continue to speculate that he could move to Vince McMahon’s promotion, but signs have always pointed to this not being the case.

At Wrestle Kingdom 12, Kenny Omega will try to bring a whole new audience of wrestling fans and viewers to the NJPW product when he takes on WWE legend Chris Jericho in a match for Omega’s IWGP United States Championship. As usual, there remains little doubt that Omega will defeat Jericho in this match, but the point is the scintillating build that has already occurred, as well as the anticipated match quality.

Omega is a huge asset to NJPW, even if Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito, who will square off for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom, are the promotion’s two biggest stars on the card. NJPW understands just how valuable Omega is, which is why the Bullet Club leader is fully expected to sign a new and improved deal in 2018.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer News reports that Omega is set to stay with the company after his current contract expires on January 31, 2018 [H/T to Sportskeeda for the information]. Omega is expected to get a well-deserved pay raise and more creative control, seeing as how he is one of the biggest draws in wrestling today, in addition to being one of the sport’s premier performers. Further, officials within NJPW are confident that Omega will re-sign.

It’s always interesting to pass along information about Omega’s status with NJPW, since he is one of the three best performers in the world right now. But it’s even more interesting at this point in time, because a former writer for WWE speculated that this Omega-Jericho feud could have been a master plan from Vince McMahon to bridge the Bullet Club leader joining WWE.

That doesn’t appear to be the case at all, and it’s hard to argue against the notion that NJPW is the perfect place for Omega to showcase all of his talents, especially at this point in his career.
