Drew McIntyre suffers a possible torn bicep in his NXT Championship defense at NXT Takeover: WarGames.

NXT Takeover: WarGames was once again the standard for pay-per-view wrestling in WWE.  As usual, WWE Survivor Series has huge shoes to fill after Saturday’s event.  Although the event went as planned and left fans satisfied, a surprising title change left questions.  The NXT Championship match featured Andrade “Cien” Almas and champion, Drew McIntyre.  The majority of fans were pointing to McIntyre retaining, making an Almas victory highly unlikely.

The two put on an incredible match worthy of being a match of the night candidate.  The match could’ve went either way but in the end, Almas was the new NXT Champion leaving the fans in awe.  McIntyre was left clutching his bicep as he soaked in the agony of defeat.  It seemed like WWE had made a last minute switch in who was going to win this match as McIntyre may have been injured towards the end of this match.

It was first reported by Triple H that McIntyre had a potentially torn bicep. HHH broke the news on the usual Facebook live interview that he does after Takeover events.  This could be huge blow to the NXT Championship picture.

Later through WWE’s YouTube channel, McIntyre stated the injury “wasn’t good” from experience, but wouldn’t make any kind of definitive statements until he met with doctors. Per WWE.com, McIntyre is scheduled for an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.

Drew McIntyre returned to WWE last April and made a beeline for the NXT Championship.  He once again gave the roster depth and star power that it has been lacking since some of his predecessors had went up to the main roster.  McIntyre defeated Bobby Roode to become the new NXT Champion at NXT Takeover:  Brooklyn III.  He had finally regained some steam in WWE with a resurgence in NXT after a stint on the independent scene and Impact Wrestling.

For the state of NXT right now, McIntyre certainly hurts the main event picture along with its star power.  Unfortunately, Andrade “Cien” Almas may only be a transitional champion as WWE looks to adjust to another heartbreaking injury.
