WWE Rumors: Starrcade To Return Next Year Due To Success?

Created by Dusty Rhodes, Starrcade was NWA’s and WCW’s version of WrestleMania. The WWE decided to bring it back to life as a house show in Greensboro, North Carolina, this year, and it sounds like they will produce the show next year, too.

On Saturday, November, 25, the WWE presented Starrcade as a house show in Greensboro, North Carolina. The SmackDown Live-exclusive event featured several title defenses, including Natalya vs. Charlotte Flair in a steel cage, a Fatal Four-Way for the SmackDown Tag Titles, a United States Championship match between Baron Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura, and a WWE Championship bout inside of a steel cage featuring AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal.

The WWE tried to get everyone in on the card, and there were plenty of cameos by legends. For example, after the barn-burner Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode delivered, “Four Horsemen” member Arn Anderson came out and hit “The Show-off” with a nasty spinebuster.

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that this house show was so successful that it was “the best in a long time for the market”. He adds that the “belief backstage” is for the WWE to continue Starrcade for next year.

I’m assuming next year’s Starrcade will also be in Greensboro due to the historic significance of the location and the event, but what if the WWE decided to use Starrcade as a rolling, special house show that moves to different cities each year?

That is an important question if the WWE decides not to broadcast the show on the WWE Network. This year’s inaugural WWE Starrcade was not available on the Network, much to the chagrin of fans who were watching GIFs online and a bit jealous of the show that the live audience were given.

While it would have been nice for all of us to have enjoyed such a special show, the fact that it was only available to a live audience in a house show setting may have made it more impactful. It also may have contributed to the “monster house”, as stated by Johnson in his report.

All I can say is, I’m glad the folks in Greensboro had a blast, and I’m glad it will be back for at least one more year.
