WWE Rumors: Matt Hardy To Have Freedom With Character?

The WWE Universe is now “WOKEN” to the brilliance of Matt Hardy, who has begun his quest to awaken all of his by feuding with Bray Wyatt. But what could the future hold for the long-time wrestler?

Judging by the number of views of the WWE’s YouTube upload of Matt Hardy’s first full and official segment in his “WOKEN” character, the former Impact star’s newest character in WWE will  be a huge success. Behind the support of his wife Reby Hardy and the support of the fans, Matt became one of the most popular wrestlers in the world by portraying “BROKEN” Matt Hardy while in Impact, and fans are now salivating at the thought of the new heights his character could reach with the WWE machine behind him.

That said, many were worried if the WWE machine would truly be behind him. When Matt and Jeff Hardy re-signed with WWE and made their returns at WrestleMania 33, we all knew that the end goal would be to bring the “BROKEN” gimmick into the company in some form. I’m sure Matt signed with WWE under the impression that he would be able to continue this character, and I’ sure the WWE saw the (financial) value in the character, too.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, a source within WWE informed him that Vince McMahon will give Hardy “a creative license”, specifically because he sees just how big this character can become.

In just his first segment, Hardy made a huge impression on WWE fans, and those unfamiliar with the character from Impact and the Final Deletion are now captivated by the man’s amusing ramblings. Hardy could also help re-elevate Bray Wyatt, who has fallen off a cliff after dropping the WWE Championship at WrestleMania to Randy Orton.

In his report, Barrasso writes that Vince “clearly trusts” Hardy with taking control of his character in order to relate it to the audience. Hopefully, this aids Hardy and helps Vince make some extra cash.

It’s cool to hear that Vince trusts Matt, but I will still be interested in seeing just how much creative control the “WOKEN” one will have over his character. It will also be interesting to see if familiar characters like Señor Benjamin and Brother Nero will make their appearances in the “WOKEN” Universe.
