WWE Suspends Rich Swann Indefinitely Following Arrest

Last night, WWE superstar Rich Swann was arrested in a domestic abuse incident, and the WWE has decided to react by suspending the 205 Live star indefinitely.

Rich Swann was arrested in Gainesville, Florida on the night of Dec. 9, 2017, for assaulting his wife, who is fellow professional wrestler Su Yung.

The initial argument allegedly stemmed from Swann’s critique of Yung’s match. Swann allegedly became aggressive, and the victim tried to flee the car. Swann chased after her, put her in a headlock, and kept her in the car against her will. Two witnesses corroborated the victim’s story, and the victim stated that she was afraid and that she feared Swann would become violent due to his temper. Swann disputes this and says he never touched the victim.

The WWE has now given a statement on the matter, and although it hasn’t been released through an official channel, this still stands as a statement.

A representative told Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin that the WWE has suspended Swann indefinitely for his actions.

"“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.”"

It isn’t a surprise to hear that the WWE has suspended Swann indefinitely, and they could still decide to release him. By suspending him indefinitely, the WWE has bought themselves some time to make a decision while still coming down reasonably strong. The WWE’s zero-tolerance policy is well-known and has been enforced before.

Although Swann is a former Cruiserweight Champion and is booked strongly on 205 Live, he isn’t a hugely popular superstar and doesn’t do much outside of the Cruiserweight Division. If financial details are counted in WWE’s decision, then they could just as easily cut ties with him.

By suspending him instead of firing him, he and his wife will not lose their primary source of income, and this could also serve as a time buffer as the two work out their relationship. Swann needs help since the victim was worried about his temper based on past interactions, so I’m sure the WWE will urge him to go through counseling and take appropriate steps to addressing his possible issues.
