2. AJ Styles vs. Finn Bálor (TLC 2017)
As much of a surprise the aforementioned Styles-Lesnar match was, this Styles Bálor match was about as three times as surprising.
Instead of facing Bray Wyatt at TLC, Balor found himself squaring off against a fellow Bullet Club alumnus. It was the first time the two had met inside the ring, despite their careers having some serious parallels.
The clash of styles between the two was magnificent. For having never worked together before, the two were able to pull off an absolutely tremendous match. Neither Styles nor Bálor are overly reliant on big spots or brute strength. They were able to work in a combination of mat work, striking and signature moves to slowly build up the crowd’s excitement.
The entire match was just smooth and enjoyable from the opening bell. The two superstars put on the best match of the night, which people expected they’d do as soon as the match was announced.
The conclusion of this match came when Bálor hit his Coup De Grace, driving both of his feet into Styles’ chest.
The only bad thing about this match was that it left people wanting more. A bigger stage, more buildup, more time. You name it, and it would’ve made this instant classic even more impactful. Add in the fact that it occurred at a B-PPV, and you have a lot of reason to hope for another match between the two.
Of course, the post-match “Too Sweet” gesture between the two competitors was an unforgettable moment.
