Last night on WWE Raw, Dean Ambrose suffered an arm injury during the show, and the story is reportedly to help cover for an actual injury issue the Lunatic Fringe is dealing with right now.
Dean Ambrose teamed up with Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan to take on Samoa Joe and The Bar, and the heel trio took advantage of an arm injury to Ambrose to pin Rollins and obtain the victory. Backstage, Joe and The Bar attacked Rollins and Ambrose, brutalizing the Lunatic Fringe with some equipment.
According to PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson, Ambrose’s arm injury in kayfabe is being used to write him off due to a real “elbow issue”. Per Johnson, Ambrose will take a trip to Birmingham, Alabama to get a diagnosis. He adds that this could impact plans for the WWE’s holiday live events, which include a steel cage match with Ambrose and Rollins vs. The Bar.
We’ll have to wait and see how long Ambrose will be out of action, but the WWE has taken steps to plan for his absence by writing an injury angle.
Many fans speculate that Ambrose could turn heel on the Shield, specifically Rollins, before WrestleMania, and while it may be unwise to break up the Shield for a second time, plenty of people would be interested in a Rollins vs. Ambrose feud. Although Ambrose would be an excellent heel, he’s one of the few wrestlers who is truly over as a babyface, so there’s always a great deal of risk involved when turning an effective babyface heel.

In any case, hopefully Ambrose’s elbow issue isn’t anything too serious, because it would be a shame for the Lunatic Fringe to be out of action for a lengthy period of time. The Royal Rumble will take place in late January, and I can only assume Ambrose will be back in time to compete at the Rumble, perhaps furthering a storyline with Rollins.
