WWE Rumors: Women’s Royal Rumble To Have 30 Wrestlers?
The WWE announced the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble for 2018, and everyone is wondering just how many competitors will be involved in the match.
Vince McMahon is finally taking steps to narrow the gap in the portrayal of women’s wrestlers in the WWE compared to their male counterparts, and the latest development is the first Women’s Royal Rumble match in history.
According to Cageside Seats’s “Rumor Roundup”, the “early expectation” is that the WWE will have 30 female competitors in the Royal Rumble, which is the same number of competitors as the men’s Rumble. Before the announcement on Raw, some assumed that the WWE wouldn’t use as many women, perhaps to shorten the duration of the event, but this didn’t seem to make sense.
Having 30 women competing in the Rumble is the best decision, because the WWE has enough depth in all of their women’s divisions to pull this off. Raw and SmackDown Live are stocked with female talent, even if it doesn’t seem like it based on how little segment time they receive on television. On top of that, NXT superstars have teased appearances in the Rumble, and the WWE could call some legends to appear.
And for those of you who really like speculating, the WWE could even sign a wrestler or two from outside the company in time for the Royal Rumble, which could lead to some awesome pops and moments. You know, like the time AJ Styles appeared at the 2016 Rumble. For what it’s worth, PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reported that there are rumblings that a “very prominent” women from the independent scene may be on her way to WWE.

The Women’s Royal Rumble needs to be presented as being equally important and entertaining as the men’s match, so it is imperative for there to be 30 competitors. Additionally, the WWE can’t shortchange the women with how they book the match, especially after the debacle at Money in the Bank, in which James Ellsworth won the briefcase in the first ever women’s MITB ladder match.
