The WWE Championship and the Universal Championship are the two most prestigious championships in the WWE and the titles that are supposed to signify a superstar’s legitimacy.
Including both the WWE and Universal Championships, the WWE saw a total of eight world champions in 2017. From AJ Styles to Goldberg to Brock Lesnar, the world championships had a star-studded cast of superstars.
However, not every reign was taken as positively. Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship reign was viewed negatively by most as was Bray Wyatt’s WWE Championship reign. This begs the question, which superstars could be in line for a world title in 2018?
Although many others could fall under this category, here are five superstars who could be in line for a world title run in 2018.
5. Bobby Roode
The Glorious One has made a big splash on Tuesday nights in a short amount of time since debuting on the main roster. Bobby Roode has had a successful pro wrestling career no matter where he was, but now in the WWE, Roode could be in for really big things in the future.
Roode is in the middle of the United States Championship picture as it stands now, but once he gets more traction in a mid-card championship picture, he could join the main event scene on SmackDown. His character is as strong as almost anybody’s and he is viewed highly by the WWE universe.
He had a very successful stint in NXT and that has only carried over to SmackDown. It seems unlikely Roode will get traded to Raw anytime soon, so he should be able to find a home on Tuesday nights and establish himself as a main event player.
The WWE doesn’t need to rush making Roode the WWE Champion, but sometime later in 2018, he could be in prime position to reach the pinnacle. At 40 years old, The Glorious One can still compete at a high level and has star written all over him.
Some superstars just have star qualities, and Roode is one of those individuals and those star qualities could put him in line for a WWE Championship run in 2018.
