WWE: John Cena To Appear At Fastlane 2018
WWE Fastlane 2018 is shaping up to be an intriguing pay per view before WrestleMania, and it has been announced that John Cena will appear at the show in some capacity.
We haven’t even seen the result of the Royal Rumble, but the WWE rumor mill is already floating around with news about the Elimination Chamber pay per view and Fastlane. This year, EC will be a Raw exclusive PPV, whereas Fastlane will be a SmackDown pay per view.
In late December, it was “leaked” that the main event of Fastlane will be a Fatal Five-Way match with AJ Styles defending his WWE Championship against Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. A week after this “leak”, we learned that Styles will face Owens and Zayn in a handicap match at the Royal Rumble, which could be the start of Owens and Zayn turning against each other.
I believe that this “leak” is really just a placeholder from Nationwide Arena, as the venue in Columbus, Ohio will be hosting Fastlane 2018. The advertisement for this Fatal Five-Way occurred on the site. While this could indeed be the match that takes place, it seems more likely that the advertisement is just a way of advertising all the names that could be involved in a WWE Championship match.
Nationwide Arena did, however, leak something important about Fastlane 2018 today, and this isn’t a placeholder. On their Twitter account, they revealed that John Cena will make a “special guest appearance” at Fastlane.
This is huge news, and it feeds into the rumors that Cena could be facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania. It was reported by the Wrestling Observer News’s Dave Meltzer that Cena will have a big match at ‘Mania that is even bigger than a match for Styles’s title. That got everyone’s gears turning, because there are very few matches that could be bigger than a bout for a record-breaking title victory.
Cena is a “free agent”, and while he most recently competed on Raw, losing to Roman Reigns at No Mercy, he could just as easily be involved in a program on SmackDown Live, which would allow him to appear at Fastlane.

One way the WWE can set up a big rivalry for Cena at WrestleMania is to have someone cost him a record-breaking third Royal Rumble victory. Cena, of course, announced that he will be taking part in this year’s Rumble, which will occur on Jan. 28.
