The WWE will have 30 competitors in the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble, and many are speculating that there will be several new faces in the ring on Jan. 28. One of those additions to the match could be a returning Serena Deeb.
In late August and early September, the WWE aired the first ever Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network, and it was a 32-woman tournament dedicated to showcasing some of the best in women’s wrestling around the world. Although several members of the tournament, namely finalists Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane, were signed by WWE, other incredibly talented wrestlers were not.
Lately, the rumor mill has been buzzing about how some of these wrestlers could be signed by WWE shortly. Candice LeRae has been heavily linked to a signing with WWE by the Wrestling Observer News’s Dave Meltzer, and LeRae already appeared in a Battle Royal on NXT in 2017.
She isn’t the only big-ticket signing who could join WWE before the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble on Jan. 28. PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that Serena Deeb, who was once a member of CM Punk’s “Straight Edge Society”, was in Pittsburgh and was likely undergoing the typical medical testing that occurs before a wrestler signs with WWE.
Johnson also reports that WWE has shown recent interest in bringing back Serena, which makes plenty of sense. Not only would Serena be a good addition to the Women’s Royal Rumble, but she’s also an excellent wrestler. Even though she was eliminated in the second round of the Mae Young Classic, she put on great matches with Vanessa Borne and Piper Niven.

Serena is also just 31, so she could reasonably make an impact in WWE beyond just the Women’s Rumble, if signed. This is a development to keep a close eye on, especially since Serena is thought of highly by most fans for her work in the Straight Edge Society, at the Mae Young Classic, and, most importantly, in Shimmer.
