The Jan. 9 edition of WWE SmackDown lacked in several areas, but made up for it with solid undercard development and building.
Last night’s WWE SmackDown saw more of the same involving the main event scene, but it did feature some important developments for mid card-level superstars. The development of the entire card is important for any show, so last night was a step in the right direction.
The blue brand’s card at the Royal Rumble also improved last night with a tag team title bout. Let’s take a look at five takeaways from the Jan. 9 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. Breezango Finally Gets a Much Needed Change of Scenery
The team of Tyler Breeze and Fandango had a banner year in 2017 behind their comedic nature and, of course, the Fashion Files segments. But as of late, Breezango hasn’t been at the same level they were at just a few months ago.
Breezango’s momentum has faded with a lack of direction and to top it all off, the Fashion Files segments have been relocated to WWE.com, which greatly takes away the original feel that they once had. But last night’s SmackDown might have finally seen Breezango get back on track and move on to bigger things.
After being squashed by The Bludgeon Brothers for a few weeks, Breezango battled the team of Rusev and Aiden English last night. It was nice enough to see Breeze and Fandango battling a different team, but it was a bit surprising to see them get the win over Rusev Day, arguably the most over gimmick in the WWE right now.
This is a great move for Breezango and could help them out tremendously in the long run. Comedic relief is nice, but eventually, you have to be able to cut it in the ring. And pitting Breezango against different teams such as Rusev Day is a great change of scenery that the duo needs to break through as true tag team title contenders in the future.
Breeze and Fandango might finally be progressing into a better position and a win over Rusev Day greatly benefits that potential progression.
