Report: Paige ‘Done’ As An In-Ring Talent In WWE

Paige suffered a seemingly innocuous injury at a WWE live event in late December, but it turns out that the injury was more severe than initially thought. Now, it looks like she may never compete in a WWE ring again.

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that WWE superstar Paige is “done” as a wrestler for the company, per multiple sources.

It’s devastating news, and it comes out of nowhere. Initially, it seemed like the injury Paige suffered at a WWE live event in Uniondale in late December was merely minor. Mick Foley even tweeted afterwards that Paige was doing “much better”. PWInsider.com even reported that people backstage believed the injury was a “stinger”.

Instead, it’s reportedly the end of Paige’s in-ring career. In any circumstance, this would be both saddening and shocking, but it is especially shocking this case. Not only is Paige a fan favorite who was viewed as a potential favorite to win the first ever women’s Royal Rumble, but wrestling has been her lifeblood since a very young age. People often quip that she was born to wrestle in the womb, and The Rock is even making a film about her family of professional wrestlers. The film itself is based on a documentary.

Paige returned to WWE in late November alongside Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, who were both NXT call-ups and once participants on a season of Tough Enough that Paige judged. Collectively, the trio were known as “Absolution”, and they were already quite popular thanks to the name recognition that Paige values.

It’s crazy to think that we may never see Paige in a wrestling ring again, and I can’t stress how awful this news is. When Paige wasn’t in the ring wrestling due to a previous neck injury that threatened her career, there were a lot of issues in her personal life that put her in a dark place. She opened up about these issues in a heartfelt interview with Lilian Garcia.

PWInsider.com reports that Paige will likely be written off of television as an in-ring competitor shortly, and they add that she was likely given the news by WWE at a recent Raw.

Paige is just 25, so she has plenty left to accomplish in all walks of life, even if it isn’t in a wrestling ring in the WWE. We’ll see what the future holds for her, but I’m sure it’s exceptionally bright, regardless of this dreadful news.
