Report: WWE SmackDown Tag Champ Jey Uso Arrested For DWI

One half of the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Jey Uso, was reportedly arrested this past weekend for a DWI.

SmackDown Live has been criticized by the WWE Universe for being a show that revolves around the same main event matches and an authority figure-heavy storyline with a questionable payoff, but the tag team scene on the “Blue Brand” has been widely praised for months.

At the heart and center of that are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, the Usos. Twin brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso have dazzled fans with show-stealing pay per view matches, goosebump-inducing promos, and some of the best tag team wrestling we’ve seen in WWE in years.

Unfortunately, Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that one member of this elite tag team, Jey Uso, was arrested this past weekend for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Wrestling Sheet and other outlets are busy obtaining details about the incident, which reportedly occurred in Texas. Tonight’s taping of SmackDown Live will take place in Laredo, Texas.

More details will need to be released and confirmed if any conclusions are to be drawn, but a DWI is serious business. If the arrest is confirmed, then the Usos could be in line to drop their Tag Team Championships, which they’ve held with aplomb for several weeks after getting past the New Day.

The Usos are set to defend their titles against the team of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin at WWE Royal Rumble 2018 in a two-out-of-three falls match, as booked by GM Daniel Bryan. Gable and Benjamin have been hot on the Usos heels over the past month, even coming close to winning the titles on an episode of SmackDown Live before the referee corrected his initial decision.

This is a story to monitor closely, because it could have serious WrestleMania implications, as many expect the Usos to retain the SmackDown Tag Titles up until “The Show of Shows”.

Slice Wrestling first reported that Jey Uso was arrested in Hidalgo, Texas on Sunday, Jan. 14 before Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed this tweet with their report.
