WWE SmackDown Top 5 Segments: Big Night For Sami Zayn
4. Jey Uso vs. Chad Gable
To hype up the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match, WWE went with their usual “members of each team wrestle each other in a singles match” formula. I almost fell asleep just typing that last sentence. Fortunately, Jey Uso and Chad Gable and really good at pro wrestling.
While this match will probably drift out of most fans’ consciousness by the end of the week, both men produced a fun little opening bout. Gable got the heat working Jay’s arm throughout the match, which the co-holder of the SmackDown Tag Team Titles sold well.
The finishing sequence was really good as well. Gable ducked and Uso superkick attempt before hitting a rolling kick and his Chaos Theory suplex for the clean pin. Honestly, this match made the list primarily because of that German suplex. It looked cool when Doug Williams did it in TNA and it still does now.
WWE likely spent approximately five seconds putting this match together, but it still achieved the goal of giving the challengers credibility going into their 2/3 falls match on Sunday. It should be one of the better matches on the card provided they get enough time (they probably won’t, despite the 2/3 falls stipulation).
