Asuka loses match to a face and turns heel

After the tag team match held at Raw 25, Asuka reminded competitors that “no one is ready for Asuka” by taking out her own teammates after Sasha Banks secured their win. This raised eyebrows for several reasons.

Asuka has been up to this point pretty neutral, it not being clear whether she is a face or a heel. After her decision to turn on her own teammates, it appeared that WWE was making small steps to turn Asuka into a full heel territory.

It also gave viewers and Rumble match entrants a peek at what could be in store for the Rumble match. It could be a preview, though WWE usually goes in the opposite direction of any preview they tease us with.

Asuka has remained undefeated in the two years she’s been with the company, and as monumental as that is, it’s unlikely it will continue throughout her entire career. Eventually, WWE will lead us up to a mortifying Asuka loss, and the results of such a loss are endless. Why not let the loss come at a historical match, resulting in a historical turn?

Creative has been teasing a Charlotte Flair heel turn for a few weeks now with specifically worded promos and interviews. If that’s the route they are taking, it would make sense for a face to win the match, something Asuka has slightly separated herself from.

Let’s not forget that Absolution originally let Asuka slide from a beat down, before finally turning on her. With Paige’s absence from the ring official, Asuka could be the heel leader we’ve all been waiting for.
