Legends still got it
A staggering 11 participants in the women’s Royal Rumble match was considered a Legend, or at the very least, had announced retirement from the company, already.
Though some viewers complained we didn’t see much from the NXT Women’s Division, most were happy to see some familiar faces back to work.
Lita, Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, Jacqueline, Beth Phoenix, the Bella Twins, and the final entrant, Trish Stratus, all made a splash entrance into the women’s match, participating in all of the fun at the record-book event.
The Bella Twins were the longest-surviving Legend entrants, with Nikki lasting 16:30, and Brie lasting 11:58. Nikki Bella and Michelle McCool tied for most eliminations, with four.
It wasn’t only that they appeared on stage, that drove the fans crazy, but that some of them got to reignite old rivalries that we all loved and missed. Trish Stratus and Mickie James, once powerhouses of the Attitude Era, got to share a moment in front of the fans–before Trish eliminated Mickie from the match.
We even got to see the Bella Twins (a personal favorite) back in action, first taking orders from The Boss, Sasha Banks, and then finally reminding us why there were the best heels in the women’s wrestling business by once again sparking that old feud of sister vs. sister.
The resurfacing of legends is huge in a number of ways, mostly when it concerns WWE’s pockets, but it allows fans to relive those special moments from the past. It also could quite possibly lead to previous talent rejoining rosters, as we’ve seen time and time again at the men’s side.
Could the rehashing of old dirt between Stratus and James, or Bella and Bella, lead to more unexpected main show appearances and pay-per-view surprises?
