WWE SmackDown Grades: Ziggler And Corbin Living Life In The Fastlane
Last night’s WWE SmackDown was a positive step for the blue brand with solid matches and building towards the Fastlane pay-per-view.
The Feb. 13 edition of WWE SmackDown saw some key developments for the Fastlane pay-per-view in just under one month, primarily the WWE Championship picture. Other championships were focused on as well.
From top to bottom, last night’s show was stellar and did a good deal for the brand with its final pay-per-view before WrestleMania 34 looming. With all of that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from a few matches/segments from the Feb. 13 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. The New Day vs. Shelton Benjamin And Chad Gable
The New Day can seemingly make anything fun and entertaining as the trio has proven time and time again over the years. However, interacting with a team that isn’t over with the WWE universe can be a bit dicey at times, as was shown last night.
Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable just haven’t clicked as a tag team since forming a few months ago. Their collective in-ring prowess is very strong, but their characters haven’t improved lately. Benjamin and Gable have been floating around since losing another tag team title match to The Usos at the Royal Rumble, and that trend continued last night.
Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods were in the ring with several plates of pancakes just goofing around before Benjamin and Gable intervened. It became a bit cringe-worthy at times before an impromptu tag team match took place between the teams. And in typical recent fashion, Benjamin and Gable lost.
It was a short match that didn’t do much of anything for either team. There was some solid in-ring work done, but the match was too short and ultimately made Benjamin and Gable look even worse. Their days as a tag team might be numbered as they continue to float around the card in undefined positions while not connecting with the WWE universe.
As solid as SmackDown was last night, this match plus the segment before it didn’t click and did more harm than good for the team of Benjamin and Gable.
