WWE: The New Day and The Usos Should’ve Had WrestleMania Match To Themselves

The Bludgeon Brothers’ beat-down of the The New Day and The Usos at WWE Fastlane sent a message that the reload of the rivalry was just a gateway for Harper and Rowan to immediately compete for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.  Although they are legitimate contenders, The New Day and The Usos established a rivalry over the past year that is deserving of its own match at WrestleMania.

The New Day/Usos rivalry has been so good that if you threw it in the air, it would turn into sunshine.

For years following the rivalries between Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boyz and the Hardys, the WWE tag team division was a bit of an eyesore for the company as it was comprised of teams of wrestlers thrown together after their singles left something to be desired.  There was not much for fans to sink their teeth into and the belts became an afterthought.  The recent resurgence of the tag team division has been a welcomed change to WWE programming, and two teams in particular can take the lion’s share of credit: The New Day and The Usos.

These two teams did not have much reason to collide before New Day was drafted to SmackDown since both teams had been babyfaces.  Their collision came to fruition when The Usos, due to growing stale (mostly due to their association with Roman Reigns) ditched the dancing and face paint in exchange for the keys to their self-titled “penitentiary”.

Their newfound darkness collided with the New Day’s “power of positivity” in exquisite contrast, and the two premier WWE tag teams of the last half-decade finally had a stage to share together.   Excellent matches at Money in the Bank, Battleground, and a classic cell match at Hell in a Cell would ensue, establishing a rivalry that would challenge any other one in the current WWE landscape.  They made tag team wrestling something to look forward to on WWE programming again, rather than something to hold the crowd over until the main event.

There are undoubtedly a handful of matches at WrestleMania this year that should be showcased as main or semi-main event, so this piece is not meant to place New Day and The Usos above them, or is it meant to warrant the halting of the Bludgeon Brothers, as they hold a tremendous amount of promise.

However, New Day and The Usos have been the spearheads behind a tag team renaissance over the past year or so in the WWE, and before going their separate ways deserve the proper stage to bring this chapter of their rivalry to a close.  WrestleMania should be a culmination of journeys established over the previous year (sometimes more), and no journey has featured more moments than that of this rivalry.  They deserve the grandest stage of them all.
