4. The Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan – WrestleMania VI
There’s a lot that people remember from this epic showdown between Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior from WrestleMania VI. It was for the WWF Championship and was being contested between two of the most iconic baby faces in the company’s history in front of the largest crowd in the WWE of all time up to that point, and probably holds up to this day as arguably the best in-ring match either guy has ever had.
What a lot of people forget was that this match was also for the Intercontinental title as it was a champion versus champion situation. The Warrior had carried the belt between 1988 and 1990 for well over 400 days between two reigns and walked into WM VI knowing that no matter who won, the IC belt would be stripped off that person due to WWF rules at that time prohibiting someone from carrying both belts. But that doesn’t make it any less of an IC title match and considering that the victor would be the first person to ever hold both belts simultaneously, it would be a huge honor.
Well we all know how things played out. Both guys were on their game this night at the SkyDome in Toronto and after nearly 23 minutes, The Warrior picked up victory after a bruising affair and the torch was officially passed. And although things did not pan out in the future the way most people, including Vince McMahon and The Ultimate Warrior thought it would, that does not negate the fact that this was one of the most prestigious moments in the history of the Intercontinental title.
