Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor Match Was Produced By Tyson Kidd

Finn Balor and Seth Rollins tore down the house last night on WWE Raw, earning “This is awesome!” chants from the Atlanta crowd. Those two are responsible for the great match, but a shoutout should go to Tyson Kidd, who reportedly produced the match.

Ever since Finn Balor defeated Seth Rollins to become the first ever Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016, these two WWE Superstars have been difficult to separate. Balor and Rollins will face The Miz at WrestleMania 34 in a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship, and they’ve been busy trying to one-up the other over the past few weeks.

After Balor defeated Rollins on Raw a couple of weeks ago by rolling him up after The Kingslayer tried to hit his opponent with a Falcon Arrow following a Superplex, Rollins got his win back last night on Raw via “The Stomp”.

Balor and Rollins received a copious amount of time to weave a captivating TV match, which The Miz did a great job of selling on commentary. In fact, he did a much better job of calling the in-ring action than Michael Cole, Jonathan Coachman, or even Corey Graves.

The match itself featured callbacks to their old encounters, such as Rollins kicking out of the roll-up attempt this time, and the pace quickened exactly when it needed to, which made the slowly-paced early exchanges pay off.

According to Fightful.com’s Sean Ross Sapp, the match was produced by former superstar Tyson Kidd, who knows a thing or two about putting together top-notch TV matches. Sapp also revealed more about which backstage officials were responsible for producing which segments here.

Kidd retired from in-ring action in 2015 after suffering a severe neck injury, and he was hired by WWE as a backstage producer last year. It’s great to hear something specific about a match he produced, and it’s no surprise that a match involving Balor and Rollins with Kidd producing was a big hit. In fact, this has to be their best TV match to date, and it did a great job of getting the crowd and the TV audience hyped for Sunday’s Triple Threat match, which has show-stealing potential.

A three-time tag team champion in WWE, Kidd’s Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro remains one of the greatest TV matches of all-time.

It will be interesting to see if more information about the matches Kidd’s producing are revealed in the future, too, because I’d love to keep track of the work he’s doing to help current superstars earn “This is awesome!” chants during TV matches that leave a lasting impression on fans (much like he did during his prime circa 2014).
