The final WWE SmackDown before WrestleMania 34 showcased the blue brand’s top storylines heading into the show of shows for the final time.
The April 3 edition of WWE SmackDown was centered around the building of several key feuds and storylines with WrestleMania 34 on the horizon this coming Sunday. Outside of that, there were a few solid matches as well.
The blue brand has some of the most anticipated matches at the showcase of the immortals and last night did a solid job of further hyping them up. With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the April 3 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. Opening Segment
The in-ring return of Daniel Bryan is only four days away and will take place in the same building where he had a career-defining performance just four years ago at WrestleMania 30. And last night’s SmackDown opened up with Bryan and his tag team partner addressing the situation.
Bryan opened up the show by calling Shane McMahon down to the ring after he had been off TV for a couple weeks. Shane O’Mac was brutally attacked by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who will take on both Bryan and Shane at WrestleMania 34 in a high-stakes tag team match.
Last night’s opening segment saw both Shane and Bryan on the same page for the first time in quite some time. Bryan apologized to Shane O’Mac for not believing that Owens and Zayn had ulterior motives and Shane also acknowledged that he does act temperamental and hot-headed at times, which Bryan accused on several occasions.
And the segment was capped off when the two hugged it out and said how they will defeat Owens and Zayn at WrestleMania 34. The segment wasn’t bad, but it felt a bit random and unnecessary at times. It was important for them to both be on the same page once and for all, but this segment felt drawn out and it really didn’t do anything than a backstage segment couldn’t have accomplished.
The blue brand’s authority figures are on the same page at long last, even though their segment to open up last night’s show wasn’t the most compelling of all-time.
