The April 10 edition of WWE SmackDown was an action-packed show with a few surprises as the blue brand successfully followed up WrestleMania 34.

Last night’s WWE SmackDown had a lot to live up to following WrestleMania 34 and the Raw after ‘Mania, but it did an outstanding job of doing so as the landscape of the brand has changed.

And with the Superstar Shake-Up taking place next week, the landscape of the blue brand will continue to change.  With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the April 10 edition of WWE SmackDown.

5. Opening Segment

The in-ring return of Daniel Bryan hasn’t only affected the roster of superstars, but it has now affected SmackDown’s authority figures.  Last night’s opening segment focused on that issue and made a big splash regarding the blue brand’s GM position.

Commissioner Shane McMahon opened up the show by thanking the fans for making WrestleMania week a huge success.  He then shifted his attention towards Bryan’s return and said he will now be considered a full-time competitor inside the squared circle and that Bryan has officially stepped down as the SmackDown GM.

It didn’t take long for Shane to announce the next GM and his new fellow authority figure on Tuesday nights is the recently-retired Paige.  The previous night on Raw, Paige announced what many fans already knew and that is she is now officially retired due to injury.  It was a big blow given how great Paige is, but the WWE can make the most out of her situation now in a perfect way.

Paige’s first act as GM was to make a dream match that nobody would have ever thought they’d see on WWE TV, Bryan vs. AJ Styles.  Overall, this segment was awesome and seeing Paige in the GM role was even better.  She will give Tuesday nights a different feel and should flourish in the role of being GM.

Last night’s show started with a bang and it resulted in one of the night’s better segments and a big change that will affect the course of the blue brand.
