2. Drew McIntyre Wins The Intercontinental Title
Was Drew McIntyre inside a main roster ring a welcome surprise or what? Talk about a guy who had the whole world in front him, lost it all in grand fashion, took three years to reinvent himself, and now looks like the future main event type guy who he was once projected to be. He got a gigantic pop on Monday night when he returned and not just because he slapped Titus O’Neill around which usually makes most wrestling fans cheer, but because the guy is the epitome of a redemption story. Add to it the fact that McIntyre suddenly looks like physically the largest human being on earth and it’s no wonder why the WWE Universe is buzzing about his main roster reemergence.
Now, teaming up with Dolph Ziggler is a bit of a head-scratcher. Nothing against Dolph, but a guy like McIntyre doesn’t need any help at this point. We’re talking about a 6’5′, 265 pound behemoth that moves like a cruiserweight. So hopefully the Ziggler pairing is short-lived. And once McIntyre gets into a groove the sky is the limit for him to the point where nobody should be shocked if he’s challenging for the Universal Championship before 2018 ends.
But in the meantime, while Brock Lesnar holds the red brand’s biggest title hostage, there’s no reason to think that “The Celtic Colossus” can’t dethrone Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental title. Sure, guys like Baron Corbin, Finn Balor, and Bobby Roode will clearly be in the mix as well for IC gold, but McIntyre has a very real chance of emerging from the pack. Rollins will have a decent run as champ but I predict that McIntyre ends his reign. Most likely in violent fashion at Extreme Rules in July.
