Will We Get Swerved at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble?

With the Greatest Royal Rumble approaching quickly, the WWE will need to make a big decision in the main event.

WWE has yet to pull the trigger on Roman Reigns, even though they build him up to be an unstoppable force. In fact, during the main event of WrestleMania, everyone expected him to overcome Brock Lesnar. Oddly enough, Reigns did not walk away as the new WWE Universal Champion. Now, there is speculation that he’ll be certainly winning the strap at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.

First off, let’s consider why Brock Lesnar retained the Universal Championship. It’s quite possible that the WWE wanted to hold off on the exchange simply because Roman Reigns would get booed out of New Orleans had he won. In an already underwhelming pay-per-view, the only thing that might have made the Reigns win acceptable was the heel turn.

And that might have actually happened, had Lesnar decided to give UFC another full-time run. But apparently, he’s signed some kind of a deal with the WWE. It is quite possible that plans were changed to the main event last-minute.

On the flip side, Roman Reigns is considered extremely popular in India. In fact, he’s more “over” across the ocean than he is in the United States by a mile. Having him win against Brock Lesnar during the Greatest Royal Rumble will be a much better reception, as opposed to in New Orleans.

But what if that’s not what we’re going to see? What if the ‘Big Dog’ hits another wall…named Jinder Mahal?

Is the WWE ready to push Jinder Mahal as a top heel…again?

Now, bear with me here. The WWE obviously has faith in Mahal in some big way. He shocked the world when he won the WWE Championship belt during his time on SmackDown Live. Although his run was largely forgettable, he was the United States Champion before jumping over to the red brand:

Jinder’s WWE Championship run was rumored to be due to the tour the company did over in India. They expected it to be a quick cash grab. However, as previously stated, the Indian market had no real interest in Mahal. But they did have interest in Reigns.

That being said, now that Jinder’s moved on to RAW  and lost the United States Championship to Jeff Hardy, it is curious to think that maybe the WWE is lining him up to be the next big heel. This could appropriately be accomplished during the Greatest Royal Rumble. Perhaps Roman will be close to winning before Jinder Mahal cements himself in both the main-event picture and as the top heel.

Jinder would be an excellent feud choice for Reigns while Brock is not competing. Truly, the best way to set this up would be to ensure Roman does not win in front of his fans. Meanwhile, the anti-Roman viewers back in the States will be happy to see that Jinder cost him the match.

In any event, it will be very interesting to see what the WWE’s plans are for Jinder on RAW.
