Loser: Jinder Mahal
No one is ever going to mistake Jinder Mahal for the most exciting guy in the WWE. His act is a little played out and he’s a bit of a plodder in the ring. But hey, you have to give the credit for his career transformation. His first run with the company lasted just over three years and netted virtually zero results. Without any title wins and a pathetic win/loss record, Mahal found himself in his final days as a member of 3 Man Band, potentially the biggest jobber stable in WWE history. In June of 2014, Mahal was let go and he returned to the indy wrestling circuit. Then about two years and 30 pounds of muscle later (hmmmmm) he resurfaced in the company.
From there, Mahal would go on a terrific year long run that saw him capture the WWE Championship from Randy Orton and hold it through the Summer and Fall of 2017. After losing the belt to AJ Styles, “The Maharaja” set aim on the United States Championship, a title he would eventually capture at WrestleMania 34. However, his reign was short-lived after he was drafted to RAW and dropped the belt to a returning Jeff Hardy just eight days later.
So just when things looked like they couldn’t get much worse, Mahal took on the newly drafted Chad Gable Monday night. And with Gable giving up about nine inches and 40 pounds to his opponent, he still managed to foil Mahal and get the pinfall victory. That was not the type of momentum that Mahal was looking to garner heading into his rematch with Hardy on Friday. And unless the company is planning on bringing back the U.S. title to Monday nights, expect Mahal to lose again in at the GRR.
Like his first run with the WWE, Mahal is starting to trend downwards again. And unless he does something to turn things around quickly, things could end for him in a very similar fashion the second time around.
