Winners: The RAW Women’s Division

As landmark and important as the Greatest Royal Rumble is and going to be, one large issue is that card will not feature any of the WWE’s female stars. As we all know, Saudi culture’s stance on women is far different than most other places in the world. In fact, Saudi women will only be allowed to attend the show if they are in the company of a family. And based on that, the WWE made the decision to respect the culture and make this a male-only event. This has angered quite a few people but the fact is that the WWE is a business, and right now what is best for business is to adapt. Not to say that this won’t change in the upcoming years, but unfortunately the reality is that business decisions are not always going to please everyone.

So with all that being said, it was a nice touch to see the majority of the red brand’s females battle it out in Monday nights event. In a 10-women tag match, RAW’s best and brightest females were showcased in a major way, getting over 15 minutes to work inside the ropes in a segment that went nearly 25. And sure, it was also used as another way to get Ronda Rousey over as she interceded on behalf of her friend Natalya, but this stirring main event produced just a glimmer of what the women on the WWE roster are capable of and proved that sometimes cultural difference should be pushed aside in the interest of entertainment.

This was more than just a wrestling match. It was reminder that some of the WWE’s most talented superstars are women and it was also an example of how far women’s wrestling has come within the company. Hopefully SmackDown does something similar on Tuesday night, because this segment hit the nail right on the head and has the RAW women’s roster looking stronger than ever.
