WWE SmackDown Grades: The King Of Strong Style Sends A Message

The April 24 edition of WWE SmackDown was a stellar show from top to bottom and helped build momentum heading into the Greatest Royal Rumble event and the Backlash pay-per-view.
Last night’s WWE SmackDown didn’t necessarily feature anything outstanding or jaw-dropping, but the show was solid from beginning to end with many quality segments and a few solid matches.
The storyline building has taken positive turns for several different angles on the blue brand since WrestleMania 34 with more likely to come. With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the April 24 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. Opening Segment
The Miz had a career breakthrough of sorts on the SmackDown brand after the initial brand split of 2016. And after the superstar shakeup of 2018, The A-Lister was sent back to the blue brand where he’ll look to make an even bigger impression this time around.
Last night’s show opened up with a Miz TV segment in his first night back on the blue brand with his special guest supposed to be Daniel Bryan. Before he called Bryan down to the ring, Miz cut a great promo like usual saying how becoming a father has inspired him to become a better man and basically tried to soften Bryan’s hostility towards him.
But after introducing Bryan, it wasn’t Bryan that showed up, it was the recently-returned Big Cass. Cass joined Miz TV, even though The Miz was caught off guard, and he said a mouthful of his own. He said how he resents Bryan because he dealt with a serious injury just like Bryan, but when he was cleared to compete, so was Bryan and that’s all the WWE universe talked about.
He also said Bryan reminds him of himself before he grew to become seven-feet tall and he despises that version of himself. It was totally non-believable that Cass said he decided to grow that tall, but outside of that strange line, this was a great promo for him. And as it turned out, Bryan had been attacked backstage by Cass before going on Miz TV and it will be Bryan vs. Cass at Backlash.
Miz TV was a stellar way to open up last night’s show and it served a great purpose in the long run for everyone involved.
