Shinsuke Nakamura Should Win the WWE Championship At Greatest Royal Rumble
On Friday afternoon, WWE will host the Greatest Royal Rumble event from Saudi Arabia. This historic show will feature a WrestleMania rematch between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship.
AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34 was a solid match but was far from the “instant classic” that the fans expected.
Personally, I don’t think that it even came close to the performance the two put on together a few years prior at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10. And I know that I’m not alone in feeling that way.
What happened after the match when Nakamura turned heel, however, was exactly what we needed to see.

Since right after his match against Styles, Nakamura has taken every opportunity possible to low blow “The Phenomenal One”. Nakamura has also started to deny speaking English and implemented new Japanese-spoken theme music that would be almost impossible for the fans to chant along with.
Nakamura is also showing a mean streak that we haven’t seen since his signing from New Japan to the WWE. We never even got to see this when he was in NXT. This is a fresh version of Shinsuke Nakamura, and he is adding layers to his character.
The King of Strong Style took it even further this past Tuesday on SmackDown when he hit repeated Kinshasas on AJ’s friend, Karl Anderson.
AJ Styles, on the other hand, has truly been the MVP of the “blue brand” since the shows were re-split in 2016. I’ve said on many occasions that, in my opinion, Styles is the best overall pro wrestler in the world today.
But the time is now for Shinsuke Nakamura to be WWE champion.

A heel Nakamura as champion opens the doors for so many possibilities going forward.
I’d like to see Styles challenge Nakamura in a rematch at Backlash in a contest that would see Shinsuke retain the title. After that, the seeds have already been planted for a program between Nakamura and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title.
Nakamura vs. Bryan would be absolutely epic and a true dream match that the fans have never seen before. Bryan was instrumental in WWE signing Shinsuke right before he was sidelined due to medical issues.
I also think that it would be a very memorable moment to have Nakamura become the first ever Japanese-born WWE champion in history.

WWE clearly wants the Greatest Royal Rumble event to have a WrestleMania-type feel to it. I’m hoping Nakamura and AJ go out there to steal the show. And I’m hoping that this time, Nakamura leaves as champion.
