Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz Is The Feud WWE Needs
No superstar in WWE history came out of nowhere and became a mega star quite like Daniel Bryan did a few years ago.
The WWE never thought Daniel Bryan would ever become the superstar he became, but through perseverance and hard work, he became the most popular superstar in pro wrestling with a rise that culminated in him winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30.
Bryan’s career seemed to have come to an unfortunate end when he officially announced his retirement in early-2016. But after a couple years of trying his hardest to prove the doctors wrong, Bryan was officially cleared to return to in-ring competition in the WWE.
It was a huge moment for the WWE and its fans, but now with The Yes Man back in the saddle again as a full-time wrestler, that opens the door for several dream matches and feuds that fans thought they’d never see. Bryan has already faced AJ Styles, a dream match in itself, but there’s one superstar who he has to face in the near future.
The Miz has had a profound impact on Bryan’s WWE career dating back to his first days in the company in 2010. The Miz was Bryan’s NXT pro on the show’s debut in early-2010 and the seeds were planted for a future feud of near epic proportions. The history between the two would only grow from that point.
Bryan won his first title in the WWE when he defeated none other than The Miz for the United States Championship at Night of Champions 2010. The two would go on very different paths over the next few years with both finding success, but Bryan stole the spotlight in the years to come with the rise of the Yes Movement.
Their paths would cross in a much different way years later when after appearing to be permanently retired from in-ring competition, Bryan was the GM of SmackDown. And on an episode of Talking Smack in 2016, Miz erupted on Bryan verbally in a now-famous promo that helped re-launch the career of The A-Lister.
The on-screen disdain between the two was high during this time and Miz even went as far as to copy Bryan’s Yes Kicks. But through all of the disparaging remarks and hostility between these two over the years, it seems like destiny that now with The Miz at arguably his peak in the WWE that Bryan is cleared to wrestle again.
There’s no other way around it, this is a feud and match that has to happen. And that seems apparent to the WWE given how The Miz was switched to SmackDown during the recent superstar shakeup alongside Bryan. But this isn’t just a match that should go on at a random pay-per-view, it deserves a marquee spot on one of the biggest shows of the year.
The ideal place for a match of this magnitude would be SummerSlam in August. It would give the WWE time to have both men feud with others temporarily to further build anticipation for this match. The match doesn’t have to be for a championship because it goes way deeper than that, but it would be especially awesome to see this match for say the WWE Championship.
No other potential feud in the WWE today has the history that these two have together on-screen. It’s a feud that legitimately has over eight years of history to go on and that’s unheard of in today’s landscape of the WWE. Most feuds are just thrown together, but a Bryan vs. Miz feud would bring back old memories of how the WWE used to book its product.
Granted, the company could still find a way to butcher it, but everything is in place for this feud to take off and become one of the greatest storytelling angles in WWE history. Not to mention, timing is everything and the timing couldn’t be more perfect for it to finally happen on a major pay-per-view platform.
It doesn’t have to take place at SummerSlam, but given how the pay-per-view is one of the “Big 4”, it seems right to have it take place there. Waiting another year to have it at WrestleMania 35 would probably be too long, but it is possible that another match could take place at that show if everything goes well.
