The final WWE Raw of April didn’t necessarily hype up the upcoming Backlash pay-per-view in just five days, but it did feature a few noteworthy moments.
Last night’s WWE Raw had its hits and misses, but there were enough positives to take away that should help out the red brand moving forward.
Backlash’s success is still up in the air, but as the first co-branded pay-per-view under the new format, it needs to get things going on the right foot. With that being said, let’s take a look at five key takeaways from the April 30 edition of WWE Raw.
5. The Authors Of Pain Climbing Up The Ladder In Raw Tag Team Division
One of the most successful tag teams in NXT history features two of the biggest bruising competitors in the WWE today. Akam and Rezar make up The Authors Of Pain, a team that seems poised to quickly climb up the ladder on Monday nights’ tag team division.
That process has been taking shape already since the duo’s main roster debut the night after WrestleMania 34. AOP hasn’t exactly had a serious match yet on the main roster, but it’s already proving it is more than capable of dominating its competition, albeit weaker competition as last night showed.
In no time at all, Akam and Rezar defeated Jean-Paul and Francois, a couple local competitors from the Montreal area. After the match, AOP would cut a simple, yet effective promo that really signaled what the duo hopes to accomplish in the future. And with the current makeup of the Raw tag team division, it shouldn’t be long until AOP is challenging for the Raw Tag Team Championship.
Current champions Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt will need serious challengers moving forward and not only do Akam and Rezar fit that mold, they might be the most serious challengers on the entire brand. It might not happen immediately, but seeing The Deleters Of World feud with AOP could be very good and could showcase both teams tremendously.
The red brand’s tag team division needed a swift kick in the pants, and it appears as if Akam and Rezar are up to the challenge.
