The post-Backlash edition of WWE Raw began the buildup towards the Money In The Bank pay-per-view next month with a few qualifying matches for the two ladder matches set for the event.

Last night’s WWE Raw had a few standout moments including impressive in-ring work, but it did drag on at times as well with a few random moments that didn’t do much in the grand scheme of things.

Despite a few weaker moments, the show was vital for the Money In The Bank pay-per-view.  With that being said, let’s take a look at five key takeaways from the May 7 edition of WWE Raw.

5. Jinder Mahal Gets Needed First Win Since Switch To Raw

A strong candidate for the most improved wrestler in the WWE over the past year has to be Jinder Mahal.  The Modern Day Maharaja went from jobber to WWE Champion that was too quickly pushed, but now he has settled into his own and has shown noticeable improvement.

But since coming over to Raw in the superstar shakeup a few weeks ago, Mahal has yet to capture a win.  He has had impressive moments since coming over, but that elusive first win on the red brand eluded him until last night when he battled Chad Gable in a rematch from a couple weeks ago when Gable upset Mahal.

The Modern Day Maharaja approached GM Kurt Angle about having a qualifying match for the Money in the Bank ladder match next month and Angle said if Mahal would be impressive in his match against Gable, he would consider it.  And even though Gable pushed him to the brink of defeat again, Mahal was ultimately impressive and he got the win plus a post-match beatdown that probably did more harm to himself than it did Gable.

Even with the win, Angle refused to give Mahal a qualifying match.  But outside of that storyline, Mahal needed a win and it should help get him back in a prominent role on Monday nights.  It’s still conceivable that he could get a Money in the Bank qualifying match as well, so that’s something to keep in mind moving forward.

It took a minute, but The Modern Day Maharaja is back in the win column and it couldn’t come at a much better time than with the Money In The Bank pay-per-view looming.
