Buddy Murphy Vs Mustafa Ali

Result: Buddy Murphy Wins With Murphy’s Law

Grade: B

After the ‘weigh-in’ debacle caused Buddy Murphy to lose his shot at the Cruiserweight title, the WWE has set about re-establishing him over the last couple of weeks so that he can be ready to take on Cedric Alexander at Money in the Bank next month.

The story of this match was that Murphy was out to avenge his only defeat on 205 Live against Mustafa Ali, and the two men did an excellent job of weaving that into the structure of their match, with Murphy having wised up to Ali’s move set much more second time around. The commentators also really sold this, and it was nice to see the WWE doing something different. This seemed much more out of the NJPW rulebook, and it was a refreshing change for WWE to be referencing previous encounters and wrestlers adapting their styles to suit.

Both men looked great here and Murphy picking up the victory really establishes him as a strong contender for Alexander’s belt. I’ve been super impressed with him since he came up from NXT, and he has really brought something fresh to the Cruiserweight title picture.

All in all, this was a really fun episode of 205 Live. The opening match was fun, and the main event was excellent. Buddy Murphy was the star of the show last night, and hopefully, the company rewards him with a title match at Money in the Bank.
