The May 8 edition of WWE SmackDown pointed the blue brand in the direction of the Money In The Bank pay-per-view next month with a few key battles that affects that pay-per-view moving forward.
The post-Backlash edition of WWE SmackDown had its stellar moments with a lot of focus on in-ring competition as both Money in the Bank ladder matches added new participants.
The blue brand still has a few questions to be answered in the buildup towards Money In The Bank next month. With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the May 8 edition of WWE SmackDown.
5. The Miz vs. Jeff Hardy
Two superstars that are no stranger to ladder matches are The Miz and Jeff Hardy. Hardy became famous in TLC matches and The Miz won the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2010 and successfully cashed in to win the WWE Championship.
Last night saw the two compete for the right to join the Money in the Bank ladder match at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view next month. It seemed like a tossup as to who would win, so there was really no wrong choice to be made as far as who won this one. And what a match it would be.
It went much longer than typical TV matches go and was an up and down, back and forth battle between two of the best. There were so many unexpected and tense moments where you had no idea who would get the win, but in the end, The A-Lister made a shocking turn of events to capture the win.
After Hardy hit Miz with a perfect Swanton Bomb, Miz was able to counter Hardy’s pin by flipping his weight and pinning Hardy to get the win. The Miz will now be part of the Money in the Bank ladder match and should be considered a favorite in the match given his past success in the match and his current trajectory towards main event success on the blue brand.
As far as TV matches go, this was about as good as it gets and The A-Lister outmaneuvering The Charismatic Enigma was a thing of beauty.
