Carmella (c) vs. Asuka For The SmackDown Women’s Championship

It’s kind of bold to predict three new champions on this show, but that’s exactly what I think will happen. Carmella definitely seems like a transitional champion at this point, and she probably peaked as a champion (in a kayfabe sense) with her successful title defense at Backlash against Charlotte Flair.

Asuka hasn’t won a title on the main roster yet, and the clock is certainly ticking. Carmella and the IIconics have talked a LOT of trash about the Empress of Tomorrow, and they think they have what it takes to beat the most vicious female on the roster. Well, the Princess of Staten Island is about to get a harsh reality check, and I’m betting that this will happen as soon as possible. Heck, Asuka could even interrupt Carmella in London during her Royal #MellaBration, which will likely be over-the-top segment that garners plenty of heat for her.

The crowd will go crazy when Asuka ends Carmella’s reign, since the WWE Universe is fully behind the Empress, particularly the live crowd (that’s who matters the most during the show, after all). Asuka’s loss to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34 still stands out, and Asuka will want to redeem herself after her first defeat in the WWE.

It will be especially interesting to see the quality of this match. Unlike Dave Meltzer and the Twitter trolls, I thought Carmella was solid against Charlotte at Backlash, even if the match fell flat (because Charlotte is not a good babyface against smaller, cowardly heels). I expect her match to Asuka to be over with in minutes. I’d book Asuka here in a semi-squash.

Prediction: Asuka
