WWE: Why Seth Rollins Is The Superstar Of The Year So Far In 2018
Seth Rollins is The Architect and has been responsible for some of the most important moments in recent WWE history over the past few years.
His role in The Shield helped lead to arguably the best group in the WWE in recent memory and the subsequent breakup he orchestrated led to a great heel run as the company’s top champion and villain.
Rollins has been consistent from day one in the WWE and has had standout moments each year since he debuted on the main roster at Survivor Series 2012. However, the run he is currently on has changed the game and is quite possibly the best run he has had in the WWE.
Since the calendar turned from 2017 to 2018, Rollins has been outstanding no matter what position he was on the card. He started the year as a tag team champion and even after his partner Dean Ambrose went down with an injury, he made things work with an unlikely new partner.
The Architect operated as a mentor of sorts to Jason Jordan, who would remain a thorn in Rollins’ side throughout the majority of their tag team title reign. But lightning struck twice and just as Ambrose did, Jordan got injured as well, leaving Rollins without a partner again.
But as things turned out, those two injuries would be a blessing in disguise for Rollins. He turned his attention back on his singles career and earned the right to compete in the Elimination Chamber in February. His defining performance of the year came on the Raw before Elimination Chamber in spectacular fashion.
In a huge gauntlet match featuring every participant in the Elimination Chamber match, Rollins lasted well over an hour and defeated Roman Reigns and John Cena back-to-back. Although he didn’t end up winning the gauntlet match, The Architect more than stole the show and reminded fans just how great he truly is.
The momentum would continue to build from there and after another impressive performance inside the Elimination Chamber, Rollins would enter the Intercontinental Championship picture for WrestleMania 34 when he competed in a Triple Threat Match alongside The Miz and Finn Balor with the gold on the line.
The three opened up the biggest show of the year with a bang and arguably stole the show with an outstanding match. And in the end, Rollins won the gold and became a grand slam champion in the WWE at the same time. He remains Intercontinental Champion today and has only helped further his momentum in recent weeks.
Two matches that particularly stand out in recent weeks came within six days of each other. Rollins defended his title against Balor on the Raw before Backlash and the two tore the house down with one of the best matches of the year so far with Rollins successfully retaining his Intercontinental Championship.
The second standout match came at Backlash when The Miz got his rematch against Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship and quite simply, the two stole the show in a big way. They put forth an incredible pro wrestling bout that saw The Architect retain his title for the second time in six days.
Not only is Rollins on arguably the greatest run of his career so far, but he is elevating the Intercontinental Championship to a high level as well. It should be exciting to see who challenges him next and given how great Rollins has been this year, expect more of the same. But just how great has he been this year?
The Architect has been the superstar of the year so far in the WWE in 2018. Others can make a claim for that title, but Rollins has been on another level over the past few months. He has developed into arguably the top babyface in the WWE and everything he has touched has turned to gold in 2018.
There are still over six months remaining in 2018, but if Rollins can keep going at this pace or a pace even close to what he’s on, he will earn superstar of the year with flying colors. Who knows, he could even become Universal Champion by the time this year ends, and that would be immensely better than having Brock Lesnar as champion.
Nobody has been better so far this year and it’s safe to say Monday Night Rollins is alive and well like never before.
