WWE Stock Watch: Becky Lynch Gets Back On Track
By Josh Raibick
As part of the WWE Universe, each week as fans we have our opinion altered for a number of superstars whether it is positively or negatively. Let’s take a look at who improved their stock this week from WWE programming, and who hurt theirs.
Seth Rollins (Stock Up)
Seth Rollins is like that hot startup company that hasn’t gone public yet. Fans are definitely getting behind Rollins and his in-ring performances have been outstanding, but we are all waiting for that main event, Universal Championship promotion.
When Rollins receives a main event push, he will continue to get even more popular and some fans will wish that they hopped on the bandwagon a little sooner. Matches with The Miz, Finn Balor, and Kevin Owens in recent weeks have been the talk of the WWE Universe.
It is safe to say that The Architect has been in a league of his own on Monday nights. A nickname like “Monday Night Rollins” only sticks when that superstar has earned it.
Right now it looks like a member of The Shield is the face of Monday nights, just not the person that WWE was expecting.
Roman Reigns (Stock Down)
Speaking of that other member of The Shield, Reigns did not trend in the same direction as Rollins. Reigns is currently in a feud with Jinder Mahal that might have been a better fit at a different time.
Mahal has been one of the biggest heels in WWE over the past year, receiving some of the loudest boos in the company. Yet, this past week a hot crowd in London cheered Mahal while booing Reigns.
What makes matters even worse, the Reigns vs. WWE Management storyline is still being attempted. Reigns is a great superstar, but he is not Daniel Bryan.
At this point trying to pitch Reigns to the WWE Universe as a babyface is like reheating the same leftover food in the microwave over and over. Each time Reigns is presented as a babyface, the quality of Reigns’ story declines.
It is time to do the respectful thing and throw the leftover food, I mean the babyface storyline out.
Becky Lynch (Stock Up)
Becky Lynch has come close on so many occasions, yet seems to continue to fall just short. This past Tuesday on WWE SmackDown Live that was not the case.
In a triple threat match with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose, The Irish Lass Kicker left little doubt thanks to a Dis-Arm-Her that forced Rose to tap out. Since Lynch is not involved in a championship match, it was a must for her to earn an opportunity for the Money in the Bank contract.
Since her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship reign, Lynch has been due for a big breakout performance. Despite the lack of big match victories over the past 18 months, Lynch is still wildly popular, and a big win at WWE Money in the Bank 2018 should be met with cheers from the WWE Universe.
Daniel Bryan (Stock Up)
For as long as wrestling fans can remember it seems like the babyfaces have not just fought for honor, but have been stupid. As fearless as it is to run into a wall repeatedly, wouldn’t it be smarter to walk around the wall if given the choice?
In the case of Bryan this past Tuesday, instead of just exchanging punches the entire encounter with Big Cass, the smaller superstar decided to go for Cass’ surgically repaired knee. Was this a cowardly move?
I don’t think so. If someone insulted your family, was bigger than you, and then made a physical confrontation inevitable, wouldn’t you do the same?
The answer is so obviously yes, and that is why it was so refreshing to see a babyface use his experience and wrestling IQ to outwit his adversary.
Next: WWE SmackDown Live: Is It Becky Lynch's Time
This past week I felt that there were more significant positive changes in superstars’ stock than negative. In the coming weeks I am interested to see where Sasha Banks and Bayley story goes, what Sami Zayn’s character does when met with a force like Bobby Lashley, and if Braun Strowman vs. Drew McIntyre becomes everything we hope it can be.
