The Velveteen Dream called out Ricochet on social media a couple of months ago, and his feud with “The One and Only” has started to heat up as we head closer to WWE NXT TakeOver: Chicago II.
Ever since his ground-breaking feud with Aleister Black at WWE NXT WarGames, the Velveteen Dream has been one of the hottest acts in all of wrestling. Dream’s character work is simply unparalleled right now, and he moves around in the ring like someone half his size and ten times the amount of in-ring experience. The man is a special talent, to say the least, and he continues to show why night in and night out.
Recently, the Velveteen Dream has had a bone to pick with Ricochet, who signed with WWE earlier this year and dubs himself “The One and Only”. Ricochet and Dream will fight Lars Sullivan in a handicap match this week on NXT Television, as Sullivan interrupted their bout in order to stake his claim as Black’s next challenger for the NXT Championship.
Dream and Ricochet have been wrestling each other at live events, and during their match in Houston, Dream pulled off a perfect heel move on the crowd.
The audience was expecting the Velveteen Dream to jump off the top rope to the outside on Ricochet for a VERY exciting and high-risk maneuver. But instead of hitting the huge move, Dream decided to be the smart heel, trolling the crowd by simply jumping lightly off the top rope and onto the apron. He then taunted the crowd with a DX-style “Suck it!”

Ricochet is one of the most exciting wrestlers in the world and is known for his acrobatics, so it also makes sense for Dream to avoid hitting a high-impact move against him to kind of rub it in a little and play mindgames with Ricochet. Although Dream wants to prove that he can do everything that Ricochet can do (and better – but we’ll just see about that), it’s better for him to save that type of defining move from NXT TakeOver: Chicago II.
And yes, I really hope these two have an insane, all-out match at TakeOver.
