WWE SmackDown Power Rankings: Shinsuke Nakamura One Step Away
2. The Miz
First of all, I just want to say that “The Miz and Mrs.” docuseries looks absolutely hilarious, and it’ll probably be the best TV show WWE has produced. It debuts on the USA Network on July 24, and the advertisement for it showed The Miz’s dad ruining a cake in his car. Any show that has The Miz’s dad in it is “THE” show. The man is a treasure. Almost as much of a treasure as his son.
The Miz and SmackDown Live go hand-in-hand, and we’re so blessed to go back to having him and AJ Styles on the Blue Brand. Every week, The Miz keeps things ticking with his segments, as they push storylines in the right direction and help keep the show feeling fresh. What’s even more impressive is the fact that his matches are consistently among the best of the week, and I’m excited to watch the six-man tag match between him and The Bar and The New Day next week.
1. AJ Styles, WWE Champion
Following Jinder Mahal’s rather lame WWE Championship reign, which featured just-shoot-me feuds with Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton (seriously how do you have a handful of bad matches with those two), AJ Styles has done his usual yeoman’s work to put this title back on top. Even though WWE stupidly let the Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe rest-hold extravaganza main event Backlash over the WWE Championship, you can’t put any of that on Styles.
I’m so excited for Styles vs. Nakamaura at Money in the Bank, in spite of the fact that none of their first three WWE singles matches were “great”. This is because their fourth was, as their match on SmackDown Live to determine the Money in the Bank stipulation was their best effort yet. Everything seemed to click, and both that match and last week’s brawl have me as hyped as ever for this program.
